Will the cold weather ever leave?

Nothing out of the ordinary for this week on the pavement. As usual up at 4am and out the door to meet Greg. Greg is my running partner and friend for over 25 years. He is also a sadistical drill sergeant of sorts, which is why we get along so well. Spending 6 years in the USAF helped me to understand that you either are or your not. Disciplined that is. There is no middle ground in this area in my opinion.

After the St. Jude Marathon we decided that we needed to adjust our training routine to allow for some much needed strength training. If you are a long distance runner, then you are aware of the pounding that you endure on those Saturday 12 milers and up. Monday and Friday are dedicated to strength training focusing on legs, shoulders, and arms.

Tuesday and Thursday were both 6 mile runs in a little warmer weather than usual. We actually didn't need gloves to keep our fingers from freezing off. I even wore shorts on Thursdays run instead of my standard winter weather tights.

Saturday morning we awoke to high 28 degrees, high winds, and 3 inches of snow on the ground. We were forced to hit the treadmill due to the outdoor elements. I would rather go to the dentist than run on a treadmill, but you have to do what you have to do in order to get the time and miles in.

All in all it was a very light week as far as miles go, but we needed a break. 18 miles instead of the normal 23 - 25. Next week should be a little better. Weather man is calling for higher temps in the 50's for morning temps. Heck, we may even break a sweat.
